Charles Henry Gonda (C. H. Gonda) (Hungarian-American, 1889-1969). Born: Karoly (Karol) Goldstein. Active: Shanghai, China, circa 1922-49. Gonda was a modernist commercial architect whose designs include the: Capitol Theatre, Sun Sun Department Store, Cathay Theatre, the Bank of East Asia and the Bank of Communications. He was also a skilled painter and exhibited often at Shanghai art shows. The artist moved to Lakewood, New Jersey in 1949 following the Communist victory in China.
